Video report on German flood disaster

“They could have warned us: Then we wouldn’t have any dead people here!”

On 22 July, a team of reporters from the World Socialist Web Site travelled to the worst-hit flood disaster area in Germany. They surveyed the devastation and spoke with those affected about their dramatic experiences. In this video, local residents and aid workers report on the events and express their anger at the complete failure of disaster control and government aid.

The scale of death and damage to homes, roads, bridges and other infrastructure resulting from the violent storms and heavy downpours is the responsibility of the federal and state governments and their capitalist policies, which, as in the pandemic, prioritize profits before lives.

English and French subtitles are available in the YouTube video options.
